tycroesologoBuilt in 1993, Ty Croeso – (Welcome house) is a six bedroomed house in the grounds of Glan Clwyd hospital which provides overnight accommodation for the parents, carers and families of sick  children admitted to the paediatric wards and parents of babies in the Special Care Baby Unit which covers the whole of the North Wales area and beyond.

The rest of its name: “Dawn Elizabeth House” is in memory of Dawn Elizabeth Williams who died at the age of 25 years following a road accident.  It was built using a substantial donation from this young lady’s parents and with funds from charitable organizations and local community projects.

Staffed by two part-time employees and a group of sixteen volunteers the house operates 24/7 including weekends and public holidays and relies on the contributions received from families who are encouraged to make a donation of £10 for each week they stay.  All other funding comes from charitable donations, without which the house would be unable to operate.
