Shooting Miss October

One winter morning at a riding stables between Caerwys and Holywell, in Flintshire,  ten friends were discussing over coffee, how they could raise funds for a worthy local charity.

They thought about all the usual things – sponsored walks, abseiling, even a sponsored slim, but they already had worn those particular tee-shirts and felt they wanted to go one better this time.

After lots of  giggles and several gasps of “No way” they finally decided to draw inspiration from the 1999 WI calendar girls and bare all for a naked charity calendar.

Make-up artist Jayne Birchall prapares Miss February for her shootAfter all, they had seen a group of men from Denbighshire do the Cheeky Chappies calendar in 2008 and one of the girls had a copy of the 2009 Beauty and the Beast calendar featuring twelve guys and twelve girls from nearby Clawddnewydd.

Both these calendars had been shot by the same photographer, so they tracked down Jayne and Chris Birchall at the BeautyPhoto.com Studio in Ruthin.

Being all different ages shapes and sizes, this was to be quite an adventure.  All the girls had doubts whether they would have the courage to go through with it.  But before any of them could change their mind, the photographer was booked and the first photo shoots were under way on a sunny Saturday in July.  Some girls faced the lens revealing a little more flesh than others, but all did their shoot with a fantastic mixture of bravado, nervous giggles and blushing faces.

Lots of suggestions were bandied about regarding a name for the venture.

Finally, because of their connection with the Llyn Helyg Livery at Lloc, the Classy Cobs 2010 Charity Calendar was born!
